ENVIRONMENT

Reinforced environmental strategy

Grupo Antolin is working to become a business leader for its respect for the environment, its contribution to the fight against climate change and its support for the transition toward a low carbon economy.
As part of Value for the Planet, the company has set some specific objectives and a series of tangible actions.

A new road map

Carbon-neutral company

OBJECTIVES
Value for the planet
Reduction of emissions
Road map
SCOPE 1
Direct emissions

Associated with combustion processes and greenhouse gases (GHG) related to the activity itself.

Carbon neutrality by 2040
– 30% CO2 emissions by 2028.

Consume less
-5% energy consumption.

Consume better
35% consumption of energy from renewable sources.

Offsetting emissions

SCOPE 2
Indirect emissions

Associated with electricity consumption and district heat derived from its own activity.

SCOPE 3
Indirect emissions

Derived from the supply chain.

Carbon neutrality by 2050
  • Scope 3 footprint measurement.
  • Extension of the commitments to the supply chain.

Reduction of emissions

  • Optimization of all processes: procurement of raw materials, manufacturing, storage and dispatch.
  • Sustainable innovation in the different phases of the product life cycle: reducing the weight of components.

Energy efficiency and renewable energies

  • ITOEEPP project (Innovative Technologies for the Optimization of Energy Efficiency in Production Processes): improving the energy optimization of facilities with large energy consumptions.
  • Generation of electricity for self-consumption: a new photovoltaic facility in Germany, five in all. At these centers around 15% of the energy consumption already comes from renewable energies.
  • Purchase of 100% renewable electricity at plants in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Brazil and China. This will be extended to Spain and Portugal in 2022 thanks to the agreements signed with Acciona and AXPO.

Extension of the commitments to the supply chain

In 2021 a new road map with the company’s AEnvironmental, Social and Governance objectives has been developed and communicated to the supply chain.

2028

  • 100% of direct material suppliers to be assessed in ESG matters.

2050

  • Limit for suppliers and their respective chains to achieve zero net emissions.

To reach this target, the company measures part of the scope 3 emissions from the transportation of its suppliers at 44 plants –in Europe, the United States and Mexico– and is working to determine which categories of scope 3 emissions established by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol are relevant to the organization.

Eco-Design and Life Cycle Analysis

  • On its path toward full circularity, Grupo Antolin relies upon the promotion of eco-design through the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of its main products.
  • In 2021 Grupo Antolin designed the ‘from cradle to door’ LCA for a door panel, considering the impacts generated from obtaining the materials to manufacturing the panel.
  • The customer and Grupo Antolin, travel companions in reducing the carbon footprint of products thanks to the life cycle analysis to quantify the footprint in the stages with the greatest environmental impact.

Less is more

  • First polyurethane (PU) headliner substrate produced through a hot forming process that includes materials made from urban waste, post-consumer plastic waste and tires at the end of their useful life.
  • The company called “ASH Reciclado de Techos” (dedicated to transforming this waste into boards made from a range of technical materials called Coretech®) took over the management of fiberglass waste from other external companies, 256 tons of waste = +34,000 m2 of prefabricated board.

Better people for a better future

The goals set by the 2030 Agenda offer companies a unique opportunity to help create prosperous environments through their commitment and collaboration with all their stakeholders. This is how Grupo Antolin understands its responsibility in promoting more sustainable and respectful development that can offer fair and equitable growth for everyone.
